Chi-X's Randall: Smart-Order Routing Key

Since the European Union's Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) took effect in November, the Chi-X Europe alternative trading platform has been one of the biggest beneficiaries, according to Peter Randall, CEO of the venue.

MiFID "has led customers to have greater choices, and we are capturing that flow," says Randall. Launched in March 2007, the London-based platform, which is operated by New York-based agency brokerage Instinet's Chi-X Global subsidiary, claims to offer the lowest execution prices in the European equities market and boasts a nearly 10 percent market share. "Better prices for trading securities lead participants to have better choices," notes Randall. "People that want to be able to allow their customers to get better prices for trading securities have been some of our biggest supporters."
